The Hoop Coop Project will provide everything a family needs to start their backyard flock including all the pre-cut materials for the coop and 4 starter birds, hatched right here on the farm. Coops will be built specifically for the extreme climate swings we see in New England where our summers hit 98 degrees with 80% humidity and our winters dip below 0 with significant windchills. Our goal is to provide marginalized members of our local community, these materials and birds free of charge.
Our in-house engineer has designed a small, economical, easy to handle chicken coop that we can build for under $400 in materials. The progam includes a hands on chicken-keeping workshop that will teach participants everything they need to know to start their back yard flock as well as how to build their ver own hoop coop.
While some members of the community can afford to pay for the pre-cut kit that they can build themselves, there are others who can apply for a free coop based financial need.
In addition to the materials above, we need to cover the cost of instructors, the hoop bender, and the design work.
